Welcome!

Welcome to Austin Community College's courses given by Dr. Tim Altanero!

My office is at the Rio Grande Campus in room 206.3. The phone number for the Foreign Language Department is 512.223.3340. E-mail is also available.

Adding a course

If a class is full, I cannot add you.  Really.  All registration matters are handled through the registrar’s offices on the various campuses or via the web.

Online Courses

If you are enrolled in an online course, click here for further information.

General Information

*Please purchase your textbook and other required materials before coming to class as we use them on the very first day of class.

If you do not have the prerequisites for the course you want to take, you can try taking a challenge exam or the CLEP.  Please visit the department website for further information.

All courses use Blackboard, the college course management system. Access to it is available when the semester starts or slightly before. You are not required to use the system or have internet access to take most classes but it is helpful and will save you money because you won't have to buy tapes or CDs of the homework listening sections of the foreign language classes.

Study Abroad

ACC has agreements with many international universities and colleges for exchanges and some ACC faculty teach all or part of their courses abroad.

Contact the International Programs Office for further information.

German

I currently teach primarily first semester German at the college though I may teach other levels on occasion. Check the ACC Website for the current schedule of classes.  The textbook for this class is Treffpunkt Deutsch.

This course covers the first six chapters of the book. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Spanish

I currently teach all levels of Spanish at the college in addition to the conversation course on occasion. Check the ACC Website for the current schedule of classes.  Taking Spanish 0041 (Spanish lab) concurrently with Spanish 1511 is strongly recommended if you consider yourself a “struggler” with language or if you have never taken a foreign language course of any kind before.  The textbook for most of these classes is ¿Qué Tal?.

Spanish 1511 covers chapters 0-6 of the textbook.  There are no prerequisites.
Spanish 1512 covers chapters 7-13 of the textbook.  The prerequisite is Spanish 1511.
Spanish 2311 covers the remainder of the textbook.  The prerequisite is Spanish 1512.
Spanish 2312 uses a different textbook.  Contact the Foreign Language Department for further information.
